She imagined riding the tiny beasts into battle against her enemies, real and perceived.
She wasn’t interested in the science, just the fantasy, until her friend Betsy read her tarot cards, telling her she was destined for greatness in the world.
Betsy was the only person in the audience who wasn’t a Ph.D. as Alexis, water bears dancing in her head, accepted her award for clinical research in the fight against lupus.
