Dynamite cleared the curved pass on 63, just north of Vaivre Road. It’s the place where tourists sometimes hit the guardrail because they get their first glimpse of Lake Aumberlain, which is the brightest blue you can imagine before noon.
Dynamite.
My grandfather was on the demolition team in 1971. The picture of him on the dynamite truck hung in my grandmother’s foyer.
They left some of the larger loose rock there on the side of 63. It looks kind of scenic and it was also cheaper for the state to just leave it.
One of the rocks rolled down the hill toward Lake Aumberlain.
