“Myra says it’s the best movie ever. Number one,” Steven said. “She says it can’t be topped. Life-changing.”
Jennifer was eye-measuring the flour for pizza dough. She stopped, scraped the flour off the counter, back into the bag, admiring the small white cloud as it floated, some dancing to the floor.
“You know I almost sold this place when I inherited it? As is? Just dumped it to the first taker?
Steven looked at Jennifer, looked around at the classic farmhouse, all the amazing design touches Jennifer had bestowed on the place before Steven arrived in her life.
“You never told me that.”
“Hard to reflect on now. Might have been a mistake. Anyway, Myra. I have an uncomfortable relationship with people’s superlatives. Let’s take a walk before we cook.”
Jennifer walked out the back door without another word but waited for Steven on the grass near the door.
