It’s a matter of finances. It has been since the advent of Notes. Then the devastating blow of Substack paying TikTokers to migrate with no regard for the people who adopted their platform in 2020 when it was fledgling.
I gotta say, your ability to establish character/narrator authority with such an economy of words is one I'm envious of. I adore dark humor too. What I've read from you is great, I just work BOH in a kitchen which is why I haven't already subscribed
Now Allen will have enough money to buy some no-brand anti-fashion clothes to distract him from the monotonous tedium of working at Precision and having to wear a logo on his chest.
I wonder if Dirk knew Allen’s inner dialogue would he have tried so hard to help his friend? Perhaps we all have agency in some parts of our lives, but not all parts of our lives?
Allen is very relatable. Haha. Should he hope for a job he doesn't want but can keep him paying his bills or can he find a scheme so he can buy time to do...nothing I suppose? This is a funny but very common, problem, I am sure. Great tale, Jimmy.
