Wind rustled the fur of a newly dead squirrel on the curb.
The same wind blew a Zig Zag wrapper against its split belly.
The light turned red, the Don't Walk sign illuminated orange.
Ricky Elford looked at the watch he got when his Uncle Mike died and said "Betcha 5 bucks someone runs this light after the walk sign lights up."
Cunny thought about it. Junction Street didn't look super busy.
"Awright," Cunny said, and now the street traffic had meaning.
He looked south, then north, cracked his knuckles.
Ricky gave his head a little shake, disgusted. It was 5 bucks and Cunny was already nervous. It was the guy's downfall.
Could have been an actor. Did one movie after he got kicked out of the Army, got to fake going down on a girl. Bryan Myzewski was “Cunny” after that. The old crew from Grandmont Ave thought he was on his way, but he got too nervous at auditions, never made it.
Now he was sweating a dumb 5 dollar bet.
