On the side of the curving road in Leiffer Mountain, there are signs for restaurants with smiling, anthropomorphic mascots, promises of wonderful adventures and the sun seems to have been polished by the tourism board.
But the sign near the top of the dune, one of the attractions that brings people hundreds of miles from anywhere populated, says “Treacherous grade. Seasoned Hikers Only.”
