The evacuation order went out on the internet, a phone alert every hour for the past nine, and a ranger stopping by to say: “It’s time. Take what ya can and go.”

Now the evacuation order was coming right through Jack’s irises into his retinas, then his brain, the Hemi orange flames chasing smoke that blew toward the ranch.
