Cleaning up for their next party, Emerald Doughty found a lawyer’s business card.
It had a hand-drawn heart on it. Emerald thought about it. Took her a minute. Robin had left it years back hoping Emerald would dump Neal and call the attorney for a date.
She was annoyed she hadn’t thrown it in the trash that night.
She and Neal had heard all the Beauty and the Beast jokes they could fake a laugh at by about three months into their relationship.
After a couple screaming matches and one very ripped croquet league shirt, Robin had gotten the hint that Emerald loved Neal and he was gonna be there until… “until I don’t know, Robin, until well after the Maple Leafs win the Stanley Cup.”
Robin had rolled her eyes at the hockey reference because Neal had introduced the sport to Emerald, but they refurbished their friendship without Emerald having to replace Robin’s croquet shirt.
Not even Robin knew what Emerald and Neal’s party was about.
They had done Star Wars and Big Lebowski themes, strip poker to benefit a homeless outreach, and Come-As-Your-Favorite-Simpsons-Character with the caveat that it couldn’t be a member of the immediate Simpson family.
This party was a Mystery theme.
