The hawk– Mambro thought it was a hawk, anyway, some kind of raptor or animated bird of prey–dropped bags of animated gold.
The video feature on the slot machine had drawn Mambro’s eyes to it from across the casino, drew him away from the entrance to the Build-Your-Own-Taco buffet.
When the bags split, the slot player won whatever gold spilled on the ground.
It took Mambro about 14 bucks to finally line up the crimson talons to engage the video feature.
The hawk squawked and flew onto the screen holding the bags, dropping them onto the green pixels of the grass below.
The pleasant field was the antithesis of a crowded urban casino on a Friday night.
One bag ripped and a coin rolled out.\
Mambro looked at the tally.
2 dollars.
The next bag made a crunch and jingle sound but held all the coins, depicted as little serrated bulges in the bag.
The next bag split wide open and four animated coins fell into the kelly green field.
8 bucks.
The bird let loose one last bag as it flew, and the field shifted. The bag landed in a blue animated stream and sank to the bottom.
