I love this Jimmy. Really.

It started out as a simple allegory about lack of communication, but I fell in love with the character too hard to not write the whole story.

Fell in love with him too. Wow what a story.

I am starting a movement to ask Substack to put in a poetry section on the website - https://substack.com/profile/10309929-david/note/c-15537618

Feel free to support, and thank you as always :)

Got me tearing up with this one. Beautifully written.

I may or may not have teared up writing it.

Powerful! Well done, Jimmy

Thanks, Luke. Grandmaster was really a vine. It began in an unassuming way and then just coiled itself around my brain. I really thought I had an 800-word story about a father and son who didn't get along and it became what you see now.

This is the best piece I've ever read by you, Jimmy. It's stunning!

Thanks. I hope the world's rekindled love of chess thrusts a few more eyes on it.

Fantastic read!

Thanks, Cheryl. I think I did a good job with it for a guy whobtalks too much and has never been struck by lightning

Splendid story, Jimmy. You're going to have a lot more readers starting today. Well done.

Thanks! That one is special to me. I'm sure there are many more you will like. And you are correct, the sign-ups for Roulette Weal are flying in. Hope someone brought more chips and salsa and I hope the neighbors don't complain about the noise.

Great writing and wonderful story about the experience of love in unexpected ways 🙏

Thanks Michal! Please give Eggshells a look. That's another reader (and author) favorite about love.

Nicely done. I'm also a regular Substack contributor. Ched out The Daily Offering if you have a mind to. Again, nicely done.

Thank you. Is your newsletter all stuff you write?

Expand full comment

yes, all original. i'll use Unsplash to source photos. i need to do a better job of attributing the artist. you reminded me of that.

How many consecutive days do you have publishing?

Expand full comment

i write daily but don't necessarily publish as such, despite my newsletter's title. I've been on Substack for about a year.

Expand full comment

I made the promise to my readers I would publish every day. And I've kept to it though it seems really daunting at times.

Wonderful. This is my first visit and I had not intended to be here this long, but your story sucked me in. Thank you.

Visit often and I hope I keep sucking...wait...you know what I mean. Thanks for reading. There are over 400 more and I hope you like most of them.

Makes me very happy when people like this one. Parents of nonverbal kids and people with their own mobility challenges telling me I got it right is one of my biggest thrills in writing. I hope you enjoyed the real life Detroit geography. Please, please feel free to share Grandmaster with your friends.
