Baking a giant cake that feeds the winner of Bell’s Harbor Regatta plus hundreds of their closest friends was the perk of owning Jacob’s Bakery.
When Fred was a kid, he wanted to win The America’s Cup. But his grandfather handed him the keys so he became a baker. A good one.
The Yacht Club had deep pockets. Fred made great money for the cake every year.
This year the check wasn’t the motivation.
Fred’s estranged daughter won the Regatta. He spelled her name in cursive blue icing, his chest feeling like he was getting hit with a bowling pin.
