A busser placed a small bowl of water in front of Luxi. Carolyn Thomas almost cracked that she would have appreciated her wine before Luxi got her water.
The golden retriever lapped the water as though Carolyn gave her none at home, a tiny bit of light snow melting from her collar and dripping into the bowl.
Tess said Hi as she approached the table and sat down.
Andrew, Carolyn’s favorite server at Plated brought Carolyn’s wine.
Tess ordered a Jameson rocks and Andrew said “Can I bring Luxi a-”
“A gas bomb meatball, Andrew? No. Super sweet, but no. Last time she farted for 48 hours straight.”
“Sorry, Car, I didn’t-”
“I know you didn’t, Andrew, really. And don’t try to sneak her one, I’ll smell it.”
Andrew said “Promise,” and dashed off to get Tess’s whiskey.
Tess grabbed Carolyn’s wrist.
“Ok, no classic Carolyn Thomas suspense nonsense. Tell me.”
