The metal shaving in the eye on Day Two was the worst.
Sivic looked at his journal entries, realized he hadn’t made any notes about Day Eight.
Somehow on Day Eighteen he had misspelled fulcrum.
He added a K. Subconsciously he was probably thinking “Fuck” about something.
The little retreat, nothing but a glorified hut, really, was nearly complete.
Sivic looked at the sun dipping behind Eagle Point. The window to the west would need a curtain, some sort of shade, maybe a Rita Hayworth poster as an homage to King.
The fence rattled.

He was on Sivic’s property now, having jumped over
“Saw ya building this thing.”
Bobby’s brick ranch sat on the creek, nearly half a mile away, slightly elevated.
“I didn’t notice you standing out here while I was working for almost a month.”
“From my kitchen,” Bobby said. “Binoculars.”
Sivic wondered if his inner squirm was visible. The thought of being watched while he swore at himself, struggled with tools, probably scratched his balls, creeped him.
Sivic started to ask Bobby why, but Bobby said “At first I thought it was just gonna be a gardening shed, kinda boring, sorta weird to not just buy one premade.”
Sivic shook his head no.
Bobby walked up to the hut, uninvited.
Sivic didn't know Bobby very well, didn’t love his political leanings based on the signs that adorned his front lawn during election season. Never shopped in the carpet store Bobby managed In St.Joe’s.
Bobby opened the door to Sivic’s retreat.
His eyes widened as though an effigy or something hung from the exposed rafter.
“Sivs! You finished the walls but didn’t wire it! Colossal blunder, bro, I mean-”
“Candlelight, Bobby. If I’m out here late I’ll use candles. Never, ever wanted electricity.”
Bobby looked puzzled, and he was the kind of guy who always seemed to give himself a head start on that look.
“Wife said she thought maybe you were making a little writing cabin.”
“She was correct,” Sivic said.
