The tow truck was going the wrong way on Jackson and without even seeing her car hooked to the back, Sara knew.
Repossession.
There was a quick moment of panic, then a sad but strong acceptance. Nothing she could do.
The afterschool program across the street was over, some kids spilling into the streets, others lingering, playing with their friends.
Sara thought she was pregnant once. Just once. Hadn’t been sure how she felt about it either way. When she bled she accepted the relief, moved on.
A kid pulled another kid’s hair. Sara couldn’t determine whether it was play or violence.
