The credit union sign was still strewn on Balmore across the street, apparently waiting to be viewed by an insurance adjuster.

Vera’s was running on a generator and the espresso didn’t seem to suffer for it.

“Tom feeling okay?” Brenda asked.

“He’s hilariously pissed at Greg Watts, the meteorologist from Channel 5 who said the tornado would be north of the Durbin County line, but the arm? No big deal. It’s like his fourth broken arm. The horses are fine, and the kids are pretty much, mostly unscathed.”

“Mostly? I thought they were safe in the basement before you guys went to help the horses.”
