Author’s Note: I was interviewed today but veteran entertainment writer (and sports scandal author) Jim McFarlin. We were discussing my book, and the discussion seems to have yanked a brand new 100 Word Story out of me.
The photo was blown up from the cover of Guitar Magazine.
It hung in their basement for twenty years, in the game room, on the wall above the pinball machines.
She still loved pinball, the randomness, how every game was different.
She still deeply loved her husband, six months dead. The sweetest man she had ever known, even though he had lived in a world of titanic egos and rampant drugs.
She took the photo to a studio, frame and all.
“I want an exact duplicate,” she told the guy, “but remove that goddamn cigarette jammed underneath the E string.”
Great story, Jimmy. Having lost two (smoker) brothers to cancer, and watching two sisters continue to smoke, I really relate to this.
