I knew a couple squats like this.

And I'm a big Rocky Horror fan, so I sing the Claude Rains line quite a bit

When you're bored stream Ash and Bone. Erika Hoveland and I play brother and sister psycho killers. I'm not a " monster" per se, but I'm a monster. Gained about 40 lbs for it too.

Again, luck. I always wanted to act. I have a rather long story about what happened in high school, but anyway, years later, playing with my band at St. Andrews Hall a guy named Kevin King offered me a role as a singer in a band in his movie. Then he told another director I was good. Got cast on that film. Then got my girlfriend pregnant and got a job in an auto plant. Got permanently laid off in 2004 and my girlfriend encouraged me to go to an audition. Got cast. 3 films later I was working with David Carradine in Dark Fields. He encouraged me to take it seriously and I did. I've done about 40 films since then

No heartbreak here, just a hollow sadness. Those friends I had who chose to stay in their alternate reality didn’t want to be anywhere else.

Brilliant writing. Nothing but one sentence after another filling a space much larger than a page of writing. Those streets are alive, whether their denizens wished to be or not.

So dark, and so deep. The life of junkies brought to life. All that's missing is Skyward singing "Oooh, that smell!" Brilliant Jimmy.

Rules may be made to break, but should never be totally ignored.

Was working on my vehicle in the shaded Florida parking lot of a catholic church yesterday and a homeless fellow came up and talked for a while.

We spoke of how we each lived.

Each had rules we followed and agreed we liked.

I really love how poetically primal this is.

I'm relatively well acquainted with the recovery community, so I enjoyed the mention of the 'normie' estate agent Ruthie met at the post office. It made me feel somehow slightly more invested and more involved in the story.

This was extremely compelling and I geniunely felt really hopeful for Slatter when she said that she had won a poetry competition. But the presence of the phrase 'she thought she won' wasn't lost on me and although, I was hopeful - I felt immediately worried about her reaction to possibly not winning.

I particularly enjoyed imagining what Slatter would have written in that email at the end!

Thanks Nicole! It felt like giving away the details of the email would have been too much of a temptation to wrap the story up in a bow and it wasn't that kind of story. Super happy your imagination took over.

I lead a monthly writing workshop at Passenger Recovery Community Center in Hamtramck, MI. If you're ever in the vicinity Passenger is always a welcoming place for anyone, but especially creative people touched by addiction in any way.

I totally agree with you - too much information at the end can be overkill and make it anticlimactic!

If i ever venture across the pond, I will keep that in mind - thank you so much!

I think Passenger might have chapters in England, because it was originally founded for touring musicians.
