Breakfast was frozen waffles and Seth Koepple thought that in his haste to get them on the table, Miranda might be bravely chewing them still frozen.
When the Cameron Institute told Seth the GPA he had to maintain to retain his scholarship, he started the mantra “You Cannot Fail.”
He was realizing his mantra reminded him of the specter of failure everyday.
When he silently whined that he was a working single father, his sensible voice shouted back You got the fucking scholarship because you’re s single father!
Miranda ran her fork through her syrup.
“Waffles okay, my superstar?” Seth asked, looking at the flashing time left on the microwave.
Miranda turned and smiled, mouth closed, showing no teeth.
