Noooo! Tell your truth Dave. It’s an explanation, not an excuse. How do you do this, Jimmy? You can get us so invested in your characters.

There isn't an easy answer except I try to make them as real as possible. Normal. Human. You're an empathetic person. It's more empathy on the part of the reader than magic on the part of the writer.

Excellent story!

People have more than one dimension.

Reminds me of the time I met Richard Kiel, just hanging out in a hotel lobby, sitting on the sofa saying hi to people who went by.

Ugh. As a former overly enthusiastic abuser of alcohol, this hits me hard. I know that people who are happy that I'm sober would immediately go there if something similar happened in my life. Dave needs to tell his truth no matter what, because, like me, he created the problem in the first place. Yes, it sucks, and I hate it, but it's just facts. I think that's why I'm so vocal about my sobriety. I want to nip that shit in the bud. Great story.

I see it as Dave made so many excuses when he was drunk and high--- as well as getting a free pass numerous times on sheer talent and rep alone- --that he refuses to make any excuse, no matter how valid.

Great one, especially the dagger twist at the end by the business weasel
