The sun was doing that thing where it was pretty but it was so bright you couldn’t look at it for too long.
Marion Douglas kept looking back at it when he could, because it was pretty.
He wore his old union jacket, the one that said Ticker on it instead of Marion, because everyone thought that was a girl’s name.
The Union Rep asked if he wanted Douglas on there, but he didn’t, because he didn’t want people calling him Doug thinking it was his first name.
Didn’t matter, he had been on permanent layoff since December 2018.
Ticker was walking to his Aunt’s house for Easter dinner, everyone there called him Marion, because they were family.
He could have taken the bus, but it was warmish out, so he walked, but staring into the setting sun was starting to get old.
Bus was only once an hour on Sundays anyway.
Better to walk than wait.
Loop’s Party Store was closed for Easter, Loop being a devout Catholic Chaldean.
