Fun one to write. Had I gotten a grant I was stupidly confident I was going to receive I’d be hard at work on finishing my fantasy novel. Instead I’m hard at work on finding a job that I can stomach.
Well conjured and beautifully told. Several layers of morality here, starting at the bottom with the fat birds. Or are the birds at the top? I really enjoyed this. Thank you, Jimmy.
Super happy you like it Jim. It really blossomed compared to my original idea in that setting. I gotta start getting my fantasy creations into novel form.
Thank you. Thanks for always reading the stories. Been a crazy ride on this platform. Gonna put another book into the world and see if I can keep myself out of working in the warehouse that ships em
wow.
that was quite an adventure, mr. doon.
i must say your tale knocked me around a bit... but didn't leave any bruises so i'm glad i saw it through to the bittersweet end.
it's conjured so many questions, although answers aren't imperative.
thank you for the ride.
;-)
Fun story to read.
Definitely did not follow expected paths.
But then, you are a Master Story Teller.
Always a pleasure, Mr. Doom.

I just completed 10 years at the lowest stress job I've ever had.
After years of running the companies, I now just show up and leave.
I'm always telling the "kids" that the J.O.B. pays for the F.U.N.
Nothing about the job is worth stressing over.
Today, I'm sitting in an Air-b-n-b overlooking Myrtle Beach, SC.
After 40 years of stressing vacations, this is the life.
Finding a job you can stomach is 90%. With your network of acquaintances, keep asking about. Always leave them wishing you'd stayed longer!
I see myself reading this as a full novel, beach-read-fantasy-escape on the shores of Lakes Superior and Michigan. Minus the Wrukka birds.
I have a very rich fantasy world. Dozens of cultures and mythical creatures. Want to get the time and $ to finish and release the first book.

You do, J.
Sheesh do you know how to create new worlds. I never read fantasy or alternate reality fiction, but you certainly drew me in.
“having developed a fresh appreciation for air,” made me laugh, and I now have an urge to strut around town using a spyglass as a cane.
As long as you keep the lens cap on
Jef had an Uncle Ick! (His name was actually Adolf, and he was an age that “Ick” was preferable.)
You must get tired of me telling you how brilliant your work is, but if not - brilliant. You should be teaching what it is you do and how.
If I were wealthy enough I’d be your patron. I am not kidding. At all.

Keep the faith - knowing how gifted you are. Because you are. (And I’m selfish and want to keep reading what you write.)
