“When was the last time you did something for the first time?”
I’m old, but I try to be like Jerry and do things that I haven’t done before. It takes courage when you no longer have the innocence of youth. But life is for living, not just existing. Let’s hope Jerry rebuilds his life, one step at a time.
Persistence is all of it. Though I’m ready to escape to my Hobbit Hole, write the next great fantasy world and live the hermit life with my girlfriend ( + a live sporting event or 8, a few plays and an amusement park)
It didn’t feel that different to me. And I think he’ll only be in Durriel long enough to find a grave and drop a stolen plastic flower on it. But I hope it’s cathartic for him and he never goes back to meth. I haven’t touched it in well over 30 years

I think Jerry is trying to make something out of days and finds the concept of the whole of life a bit daunting
And yet he keeps walking.
Even a tortoise only makes progress by sticking its neck out
Knew too many kids with scars from the belt not to know Jerry’s father threw oil on the fire of more than one life..
Persistence is half of life isn’t it..

It is dammit.
I think you can do it btw. You already are in so many ways.
This story was a radical departure for you.
Jerry has changed and is still changing.
He doesn't know where he's going, but he's got a goal, so he's headed that way.
Hopefully, Durriel turns out better than where he is now.
