Not an answer to your questions directly... but the first time I saw Sonic Youth I was completely mesmerized with Kim Gordon's sinewy forearms as she played base... it was all I could look at.
A few subscribers came in to the bar I work at on Wednesday night. One of them brought up Graystone Hall, the all ages club where The Minutemen played in Detroit. And I've bartended or worked crew for a few Mike Watt involved shows.
Right on. There was a winter I was working in the Mojave desert, almost all I listened to was RL Burnside's A Asspocket of Whiskey, The Minutemen's Double Nickel's On the Dime, and Uncle Tupelo's Anthology 1989 to 1993. Never got so see any of them play live.
A drunk wandered in to the bar last night, probably mid 60s, right wing based on his unsolicited conversations....tipped me 10 bucks to play Mother by Danzig. Not kidding.
Hard yes to the first question.
Probably Mutants or Trash Brats.
Two of my favorites
1. never, although the two stepsisters backing troy gregory were kind of cute.
2. given he played "sleepwalk", i'd say do your best dave alvin and give me vintage blasters.
I saw the Rev HH a few years ago at the Majestic and got a taste of Dave Alvin and the Blasters, would not likely have otherwise. Made me a fan.
I gotta ask Troy who they were.
All I ever do is love on musicians, which is why my heart is always broken.
Musicians do have a horrible relationship rep.
I never let it stop me, but that may change now. I am sick and tired of it.
Great write! J.J Grey is my Answer to Question one and have traveled a bit to see his shows which in itself was a good time.
To answer question 2, a fine choice imho and likely very influential as well.
Husker Du is hard to top. At least with one living main member

That's a good answer.
1. Only a million or so times.
2. Calexico or The Minutemen. But Husker Du is a mighty fine choice.
