This is an awesome story, Jimmy! It was great hearing you tell it. Substack won't let me "like" it for some reason.

CPS mandated reporter training, recommends complimenting a parent when they start to appear angry at their child. Tell the mom you like her hair, or compliment the dad's truck. It distracts them and can de escalate the situation. In this situation, you provided an opportunity for the bystander to sincerely compliment you, as well as the parent. This was likely what disarmed him enough to carry over when you got home; at least for this instance. You were an equal partner in saving you from violent punishment.

Aww man...what a poignant story! Glad I could conjure it up in your mind...a memory tied to such a merciful deliverance has got to be a sweet one. Also, I just like hearing you talk.
