That packed a punch, Jimmy. You had two strong character arcs in such a short story. This was really well done!

Thanks Brian. I'm just trying to listen to the characters and allow them to have real conversations.

This one is so good. I loved it. Family members being able to talk to each other this way, advise, counsel, guide. I have tried to create this in the family I chose to create. Once again, you provide a roadmap for experiences we haven’t had.

Substance abuse has been farmed over so much in fiction that writing a cliche is always the fear. I guess that's why in most stories you have to start with the characters and be true to them.

Heavy and real.

Thanks. I keep reminding myself to lighten it up and somehow the heavy shows up.

I'm glad the real shines through.

WowoWowoWow!

That story may be fiction, but the reasoning is why.

Anyone who has been there or near knows.

You called it.

Excellent story!

Thanks Joe! It was not an easy one for me to write. Not in the sense that the subject matter is tough, in the sense that I wanted very much to get it right without inserting words in the character's mouths.

You're so welcome!

That is such a difficult story to hear.

Great motivation!

I only wish those who feel themselves down and trapped could find hope through it.

No one has ever died wishing they had spent more time away from loved ones.

ps: happy you made it

My father was a alcoholic most of my life so I can relate. He did go to AA and succeeded by drinking Coke after Coke.

I used to see people in recovery who were killing themselves almost as quickly with smokes and pop.

My vice is ice cream. I did keto for a while so my only vice was steak

Sounds like me, I have ice cream every night. Well almost every night at 9:00!

Sounds a bit regimented when I read that.

“But what? Booze is everywhere. Ya can’t hide from it. Even in prison. You just gotta keep it out of your own mouth.” This is good advice for life in general. Problems are everywhere. You can do certain things to prevent yourself from getting into too much trouble, but problems will always have a habit of finding you so you can’t hide from it forever. You just have to make sure you make smart decisions once those issues arise.
