Love this, Jimmy! Great analogy and I think it's smart to be captain of your own ship, so to speak. Can't wait to see what comes out of this.

Good for you brother, congrats on the run. I'm thinking about some of my choices and who I'm making them for.

I’m happy you did this amazing thing brother!

Not being under pressure from yourself every damn day is not going to change your ability to write. I’m a fan of your work, read it every day and I don’t mind changing, hope you don’t either! Please look out for your own self and all the best my friend!

I’ll be here when you decide to do whatever is right for you.

I’m selfish but I’ll wait, J.

Thanks for letting us know and emphasizing the phrase "I decided."

Makes all the difference.

Just so you know, you havent really ended The Streak yet, because this post DOES tell a story. A powerful one. Sure, you may argue it's NOT fiction so it doesnt count, but virtually all your stories feel real enough that we/I cant really tell em apart.

Lucky me/us, we have LOTs of JDOOM material to read and read again. And it seems clear the time will come when you feed us more, of a different nature, from a place of..... well who knows what the future will bring. Best of luck Sir.

You're still the man, Jimmy.

Nonpareil.

Congratulations on being your own man.

Nothing is worse than not being able to quit on your own terms.

Looking forward to many more excellent stories!

Billiards instructor? That sounds like an interesting course.

True story: I woke up an hour after finally falling asleep last night, aware that I had dreamed or concluded that you had intentionally stopped The Streak of story-a-day posting on Substack.  I had gone to sleep pretty solidly IN TOUCH with the world, having stayed up way past my bedtime to see a late-night showing of Pink Floyd at Pompei on Imaz, nicely paired with an edible, a magic combination that felt familiar but not at all a habit for me.  Anyway, not that you need others' support for your decision, but you surely have mine.  You have done us all a great service, definitely deserve a break, and, the longer I live, the more I know ya gotta do stuff that brings joy not just fulfill duty. Still hoping to run into you some day.

Agreed, congrats. There is so much great stuff that can become a novel, screenplay, whatever. You have been incredibly productive, Jimmy. Thanks for all the great stories.

Rather than try to say something constructive, I will remind you of the seminal 😉 contribution of Richard Hell and the Voidoids:

“Love comes in spurts - oh no it hurts

Love comes in spurts - it hurts

Love comes in spurts - oh no, 'cause

Love comes in spurts - it always hurts”

How right he is.

Jimmy Doom. I'm your fan. I'll continue to be one. Your style, your weird sensibility, your amazing insights, your courage, your fortitude -- all have inspire me. I've crawled out of my closet and tried a few new dances, thanks to you. It's nice to be standing in this audience of fans writing comments. Clearly I'm not alone as I look up, waiting for the next Jimmy Doom to drop! Mahalo
