I loved it. It was perfectly written and full of imagery. Great choice not to include an image. Also great choice to point that out prior to the story; it set the readers mind for creating their own imagery. I loved the notion of a harbinger of elitist fine art proclaiming his GOAT was an outside (literally and colloquially) artist.
I truly believe that most of the best art is lost, unseen, except perhaps by a few, unsung, not remembered. Thanks for highlighting the (still unseen) work of one such artist.
I'm starting to work harder at really looking at railroad graffiti. There's some truly great stuff on there if you look hard enough, at least in this part of the US
We don't seem to have much graffiti in my small city. In fact, I don't recall ever seeing any! Lots in Ontario, where I used to live and, yes, some of it was truly art.
Excellent Jimmy. I like to think that no one actually found any of the art… The emperor's new clothes indeed. BTW, I think you might have a typo at “Burn Autmen.” (unless it's a disguised work of art).
I recently wrote a story called "nothing matters" and of course, in the story nothing did matter.
Aught is another word for zero, right? Lots of hippies took names " Wavy Gravy", etc. Or do you just not like the concept? All I was doing was trying to establish his approximate age without pigeonholing it
Got it. My take was vietnam and I got that first time but the different spelling from Autmun to Autmen just confused me. “Burn Autmen” didn't have any nickname connotations to me at all like "Burn Out Man" would. Not suggesting anything but just saying my thoughts. Just thought it was a typo. And on that note there's this: "distances. In photos" And I'd like to reiterate what an excellent story this is!
It was a good choice not to add a picture to this one.
It would be so much fun to know there are small art pieces all around you but not know where exactly they were. It would make every day life a bit more magical, especially if you were able to find one of the art pieces after searching for a while.
Found them yet? Keep looking!

Wow!
Great story.
Makes me wonder how much I've missed.
Thanks Joe.
Keep looking.
Very nice. A mysterious artist, whose work hides in plain sight. Take that, reporter!
I like to think that just because his name was on a building, he wasn't done teaching.

My husband is a talented and unknown fine artist. He prefers to keep it that way, and your wonderful story reminds me to let him be. Thank you, Jimmy.
I'm happy it's relatable. Does your husband sell at all, or just create and display?
He creates and displays, and he does have a few websites. But, he's not marketing his works right now. Maybe in the future? It's up to him.
I'm curious to see some
Here's one: https://www.markbcrabbephoto.com/
Love the theater and the gas pump
I told him, and he says, "Thanks!" He said it's just fun to make his art. He says he creates just for the sake of creation so others can enjoy it.
He's also on Fine Art America: https://fineartamerica.com/profiles/markbently-crabbe

It's his anti-war activist moniker : pronounced Burn Aught Men
Not quite grokking this.

Needs a space. Thanks.
