What can I do to make Jimmy Doom’s Roulette Weal more enjoyable for you?
If you’re enjoying the free subscription, please, please consider a paid subscription. No one in America should work for free, and many, many days that’s what this amounts to for me.
It hit me very hard this week that I would be in better financial shape if I was a marginally decent, even middle-of-the-pack mechanic rather than a writer who gets told he’s brilliant and creative and original and a satchel full of more amazing praise.
That praise is lovely, but I cannot feed my cat with it.
I hear “well, you should be doing it for the love of writing.”
I do love writing. I wouldn’t have committed to a second year of writing every single day if I didn’t. If you love what I’m writing based on the free stories you receive once or twice a week, there are more and better stories in the archive behind a paywall that will only cost you seven dollars and fifty cents to unlock.
If you are a paid subscriber and you love it, please let your friends know that you know a writer who is creating a new compelling story every day with a veritable library of fiction already written. A writer they can interact with, a writer they can ask questions of, a writer capable of writing custom short pieces based on their suggestions overnight. (Try that with King, Atwood, Jemisin, Palahniuk. Good luck.)
I hate asking. It’s why I haven’t done it more often. But now I’m in a position where I must ask or I simply won’t be able to continue. Please, and thank you.
Apparently people want endless listicles about what 5 books to read to launch their writing career...I don't think it's really your style, but I keep hearing how Brandon Sanderson did a Kickstarter campaign to raise a bunch of money for one of his books or something like that. I can't vouch for the truthiness of that, but maybe it's an option.
It's a simple question.
I'm still working on it while many have retired - there's no quick or easy answer.
Life's not fair, but I have my health and strength to keep on going, for which I am very thankful.
I don't pretend to be a writer (I'm a musician who occasionally gets paid) but if someone wishes to read the works of an exceptionally brilliant creative story teller - Jimmy Doom!
FWIW: If you have other social media accounts, each day, announce your new story and tease it. I don't even remember how I found you. I saw you somewhere and began subscribing to the free email version.
BTW: send a press release to media outlets; something on the line of: Master Storyteller, Jimmy Doom of Jimmy Doom's Roulette Weal, has created original stories almost daily for XX years is currently on a streak of XXX consecutive days. JimmyDoom.substack.com Post it as your Facebook page - or whatever you use.
Hey, I became a subscriber simply because you asked - so, keep asking!
