I hadn't read this one. I'm glad I got to experience it for the first time with you reading it. It was touching, heartbreaking, earnest but still, hopeful. Redemptive, even.

Can picture Drew hanging on to his past. It’s sad that his future doesn’t seem bright.

I saw it differently. While it's a bit sad, he's also an addict remembering he is capable of achieving things when he isn't using dope. It can be looked at like a place of meditation. Some people go so far down that sobriety and a steady gig at a car wash are maybe not " enough" but a damn good base.

Got behind.

Just got here.

Thanks for the reading.

I'm hoping for the best.

Every Drew needs a best friend.

ps: I write my comment, then I read others. If I'm not rehashing someone else, I post it.

Reading comments, I realize this story could go so many different directions.

Excellent writing. You truly care.

Love this one. Friends are so important. I need perspectives that aren't my same old boring one. Every one deserves a chance.

Wonderful style. Is it a style? I don't know. What I do know is it's the kind of writing that makes meddling writers weep. Because it rings true. And at the heart of any writer is the roundabout way to find their way to the truth. A simple thing to be sure. Or is it? This cleaves right to the bone. The kind of writing that just describes things as best one can. Without bravado, or ego. It just is. And it's magical because of that. A real voice, honest and clear cut- straight to the heart of Detroit. Just like the wagon-wheel design of the city itself. Raw and unfiltered. Straight to the core of it all. Taking the the ride downtown. Through memories you swore up and down; you remembered all along. As if they were your own. Recollections now of all the friends, those people who are more than any of us could know. Making our way home. Beautiful.

I really try to make them all magical in some way. Some are 3 card Monte, some are rabbits out of hats, some are sawing myself in half and realizing putting myself back together isn't as easy as I thought.
